Salesperson
License: Step-By-Step Process

STEP 1: Complete Qualifying
Courses
Starting October 1, 2007, California Real Estate Principles, California
Real Estate Practice, and one other course from
a prescribed list are
required by the Department of Real Estate prior to the state
examination. These courses are designed to give you a basic
understanding of the necessary subjects and a foundation of
real estate terminology. Each course consists of reading material (online or physical textbook), chapter mini-quizzes, and a 100 question multiple-choice final examination (70% or better to pass). The homework and final exam may be taken online.
STEP 2: Apply for State
Exam
Proof of completion of all the required courses must be submitted
with the Real
Estate Salesperson Examination Application (RE400A) . The
DRE’s eLicensing on-line
system offers a very convenient way to schedule your state exam once the state has processed your examination application. eLicensing is easy to
use, paperless and interactive. Acceptable methods of payment
include VISA, Mastercards, Amercian Express credit card or
debit card bearing a VISA or Mastercard logo. First check
the current list of open scheduled exams in each city then
compare that list to our weekend crash course schedule. You
should schedule your state exam just after the weekend crash
course you wish to attend.
STEP 3: Work on the Practice
Tests
If you enrolled in our complete
pre-license package, you also received a book of practice
tests called California Final Briefing Examinations. This is
the most important phase of your studying. Now that you have
a foundation of knowledge from the Principles course, you will
start studying the subject matter in more detail by looking
at actual state exam questions.
Your goal is to take and retake these sample exams until you
are scoring at 90 percent or better (on each practice test)
before taking the actual state examination. You will notice
a distinct increase in the difficulty of these questions compared
to those in the Principles course. The average score the first
time around on our practice tests is approximately 45 percent,
so don't get discouraged. After the first try, go back and
check the questions you missed, or had to guess at, and retake
that exam a few days later.
STEP 4: Attend Our Weekend
Crash Course
If you enrolled in our complete
pre-license package, you have prepaid for the weekend crash
course. Check our crash
course schedule before
you submit your application to the Department of Real Estate.
This weekend exam preparation workshop is specifically designed
to help you pass the California Real Estate Exam. In addition
to lecture on basic real estate subjects, this live weekend
session will include:
1 - key terminology essential to passing the state exam
2 - interpretation of especially confusing exam questions found
on the state exam
3 - helpful exam taking hints that will add points to your score
4 - a simplified approach to solving word problems
5 - valuable memorization aids to help you remember the basics
6 - a special math section to refresh your memory on the basic
techniques required to pass the state exam.
